Citronella Collars Compared With Other Collars

The citronella bark collar is widely available in the market and what is more exciting about it is that it does not weigh that much. The collar is suitable for dogs in every breeding class.

The trainer or the owner of the dog can adjust the citronella bark collar to suit their needs and their dog. Adjusting the collar is also useful especially if the owner wants to match it with their dog’s barking pattern. The collar is also considered to be less harmful and dangerous compared with other collars in the market.

To discourage or stop the dog from barking, the citronella bark collar will release a burst of citronella. The scent and timing of the release will immediately startle the dog and stopping it from barking. The smell of citronella may not be offensive to humans but the smell of it is new to the dog and therefore offensive to the dog.

Citronella bark collars may not be as effective as electric collars. The dog’s barking sets the citronella spray off but it may not be your own dog’s barking that can trigger it. The citronella collar only used barking sounds to trigger the citronella burst.

There are cheap citronella bark collars that use the whole spray in one blast when the dog barks. That stops the dog for a while but when the dog resumes barking, there is no more citronella to stop it.

Compared with citronella bark collars, using the static or shock collar method is also helpful to stop your dog from barking. Shock collars when properly used are a good tool to stop the dog from barking. There are two types of shock collars.

The first type of collar is to control undesirable barking. The other type of shock collar is designed to respond to any noise, regardless if it is the barking of the dog or a vibration.

Shock collars can either respond to the dog’s barking on its own or it can be administered by the trainer. However there is also a downside in using shock collars like in Citronella Bark collars because there are some dogs that do not respond to that kind of stimulus.

But advocates of Citronella Bark collars still insists that the Citronella is much safer compared to shock collars because no bodily harm is done to the animal. It also does not cause any form of distress to the animal because there are no static electricity that the dog will feel.
